Deadline reports that Universal Pictures has hired writer Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Continent) to help reboot its Universal Monsters franchise. Universal is attempting to create new versions of the stories and characters that will have their own shared universal. Alex Kurtzman (Transformers, Star Trek, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Chris Morgan (The Fast and the Furious franchise writer) are currently working on the project.
Basu’s script for the action film The Pier (co-written with David Bowers), was recently voted runner-up in the annual Brit List of best unproduced screenplays. Basu also write Monsters: Dark Continent with writer/director Tom Green. That film is in post-production now. He appeared on the Brit List with GBH in 2008 at the age of 29.
