The Oscar-nominated war film American Sniper was #1 for a second weekend with $64.4 million this weekend at the Box Office. That puts the film at $200.1 million domestically and $247.6 million total. The film was expected to fall in the 40% to 50% range based on its titanic opening weekend. To put this in perspective, Sniper is now outpacing Guardians of the Galaxy and Transformers: Age of Extinction, not to mention every other film of 2014. The movie’s budget was $58.8 million.
Note: Numbers include Sunday estimates and are three-day estimates. A studio recoups 55% of a film’s grosses on average, meaning it needs to approximately double its budget to be profitable during its theatrical run.
