Box Office Report: Insurgent Is #1

The second film in The Divergent Series, Insurgent dominated the box office this weekend with $54 million. The film didn’t receive the best reviews from critics (32% on Rotten Tomatoes), but did please regular viewers earning an A- CinemaScore. The movie added $47 million overseas for a $101 million worldwide weekend on a $110 million budget.

Note: Numbers include Sunday estimates and are three-day estimates. A studio recoups 55% of a film’s grosses on average, meaning it needs to approximately double its budget to be profitable during its theatrical run.
