Furious 7 Fourth-Highest Grossing, But No Titanic

According to NME, Furious 7 has now passed Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 to become the fourth highest-grossing film of all time. Paul Walker’s final appearance in the Furious franchise hit theaters on April 3, and became the fastest film ever to get $1 billion worldwide just 17 days later. The final Harry Potter film earned $1.34 billion. Furious 7 has now passed $1.35 billion worldwide.

Furious 7 has a long way to go to replace the top three. Avatar hit ($2.79 billion, Titanic with $2.19 billion and The Avengers $1.51 billion.

I think it is only fair to point out the difference in pricing when these films were released. Titanic is the second highest grossing film of all time with $2.19 billion. So Furious 7 has $1.35 billion, which is amazing, but keep in mind that the average cost of a theater ticket in 1997 (Titanic released in theaters) was only $4.59… The average movie ticket price in 2014 was $8.17.
