During a conversation with the Toronto Sun, Dave Bautista discussed reprising his role as Drax, and James Gun’s script work for the sequel set to hit theaters May 5, 2017.
“James is really excited about it, which really says something to me because he is such a perfectionist and he is so creative and he has such a dark, twisted sense of humor,” he said. “And I can tell you that he loves writing for Drax. The best thing about that is that James gave everybody a Drax they weren’t expecting. He was just a killer, a barbarian, in the comics. Yet he was funny in the film. It was just a different side to him and it was just more interesting.” He added, “When I asked him what he was going to do to make it better, he said: ‘I’m not going to try to make it better, I’m going to make it different!’ So I really don’t know (what Vol. 2 will offer). I couldn’t give an honest answer to that question. But knowing James and knowing Kevin Feige (producer in charge of the Marvel Universe), I’m sure that it’s going to be brilliant. I do know that he was going to try to tell more of the story of the characters. But we also need to move forward because — as you know from Marvel history — a lot of things tend to tie in together. So, hopefully, that’s where we’re headed — to tie in somewhere down the road with The Avengers. It all remains to be seen, but it will be a lot of good storytelling, a lot of laughs, a lot of good music and a lot of dramatic beats to give you an emotional connection. And I think they’re going to introduce some new characters in this Guardians, as well, which is going to be pretty cool because, throughout the comics, a lot of members came in and out of the Guardians.”
