Michael B. Jordan Thinks Creed 2 Needs A Real Villain

In an interview with IGN, the cast and director of Creed spoke about what needs to happen in a sequel. Here are highlights:

Michael B. Jordan on the sequel needing a villain: “I think The Godfather take is super ambitious and awesome. But when you’re dealing with someone like [director] Ryan [Coogler] I think honestly he could pull off anything. So that’s pretty cool. And honestly in Creed 1 we didn’t have a real villain I don’t think, so it would be kind of cool to have that antagonist character for Adonis to go up to and have some real animosity towards. That would be pretty cool.”

Tessa Thompson on wanting the relationship in Creed: “I love that about the film. I love that you’re not sure. I love that at certain moments you’re like ‘They make so much sense and they are meant for each other.’ And at other moments you’re like ‘Ooh, I don’t know if this is going to work out.’ Coz that’s kind of what love looks like. What is it that Shakespeare said? ‘The course of love never did run smooth.’ I like that you get to see them traverse through murky territory and wonder how it’s going to pan out.”

Director Ryan Coogler on staying true to the original: “Having gone through the process and developed these character, delved into this world, worked with these actors, I would love the opportunity to do something like that again and revisit these characters again. As long as it’s in a story that works and is as meaningful frankly to me as this one was.”
