Rian Johnson recently spoke with USA Today and revealed that the film will pick up right where the previous movie left off, with Rey meeting Luke Skywalker on Ahch-To island. “I don’t want to skip ahead two years, I want to see the very next moment of what happens,” said Johnson.
Star Wars: Episode VIII is written and directed by Johnson and will star Mark Hamill, the late Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis alongside new cast members Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran. The film will hit theaters December 15, 2017.
