Amy Pascal recently clarified the status of Sony’s Spider-Man standoffs, Venom and Silver & Black. The former Sony Pictures boss and producer on the Spider-Man films and spinoffs recently spoke with IGN and advised the films will not be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and are not connected. “These are standalone movies,” Pascal said, comparing the films to FOX’s X-Men movies in terms of their status relating to the Disney-owned franchise.
Pascal also opened up on Tom Hardy, who plays Venom, as the anchor of the spinoff universe in a way that doesn’t require the direct use of Tom Holland as Spider-Man, “Know what I think? I think it’s a way to make a really great movie. That’s what I think. I think that Tom Hardy is a brilliant actor and I think anchoring Venom with him is the anchor.”
Ruben Fleischer is directing, with Hardy playing Eddie Brock. The film is set to hit theaters October 5, 2018.
