The attorney for an Eldorado man charged in the 2014 murder of SIU student Pravin Varughese says his client is innocent. Michael Wepsiec says there is not enough evidence that Gaege Bethune caused Varugese’s death, and blamed social media for stirring up false information. On Thursday, a grand jury in Chicago charged Bethune with two counts of first degree murder. Wepsiec said he plans to request a change of venue because he doesn’t believe Bethune can get a fair trial in Jackson County. Bethune bonded out of jail Friday, and will make his first court appearance Tuesday.
