Williamson County 911 is consolidating, surcharges going up

Changes are coming to 911 service in Williamson County. Soon, the Sheriff’s Department will not be answering 911 calls directly. Those will instead go to call centers in Marion and Herrin, consolidating the county’s call centers from three to two. It’s part of a state-mandated plan to cut costs and improve service. The Sheriff’s office will continue to have a dispatch center, however. As a result, 911 surcharges on phone bills in Williamson County will soon go up from 87 cents to $1.50.
