Ryan Thorpe is no longer Zeigler City Treasurer.
The Zeigler City Council met Tuesday night and voted unanimously to terminate Thorpe after he allegedly stole more than $225,000 from the city over the last two and-a-half years. Thorpe was not at last night’s meeting.

An audit of city finances showed that Thorpe wrote several hundred checks to himself and then altered copies of those checks in city records to show names of approved vendors. The FBI last month raided Thorpe’s home and his office at City Hall as part of an ongoing investigation.

City leaders say they are working with the city’s insurance company to get the lost money back. They say there should be at least partial payment of the insurance claim in the coming week.
