SIU School of Medicine Launches New Department to Address Rural Health

Carbondale – The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is retooling to meet the needs of rural residents. Sameer Vohra, the Founding Chair of the new Department of Population Science and Policy, says the new department will address key needs in Southern Illinois. Plans are for the new department to target the opioid epidemic in the Illinois Delta Region, childhood growth and development, cancer disparities in rural communities, and building community capacity for health improvement.
