Carbondale – The City of Carbondale is teaming up with the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the completion of phase two of the Downtown Streetscape Improvements Project. The project saw the installation of new street lighting, Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant pedestrian walkways, trees, planters, traffic signals, and other streetscape elements along Illinois Avenue from Cherry to Monroe streets, City Manager Gary Williams said Tuesday. A ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, October 26 at 4: 30 in front of City Hall. Following the event, the community is encouraged to have lunch downtown along “The Strip.”
