Deer Hunters Asked to be on the Lookout for New Disease

Michigan – Hunters across the Midwest are being asked to be on the lookout for an emerging disease in the deer population as hunting season gets underway. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources put out a release regarding bovine tuberculosis, which has been found in deer in the state. The disease is transmitted through both wild and domesticated herd animals, starting in the lungs and lymph nodes. Severe cases can cause lesions throughout the animal’s entire body. As a precaution, hunters are being urged to get their deer tested, even if the animal looks completely healthy.
