Local Walmart Stores to Receive Solar Energy Systems

Chicago – Three local Walmart’s are among the near 20 stores statewide that will soon install solar energy systems across the state. Walmart released the news yesterday that they have reached an agreement with SunPower to have the commercial energy provider install solar systems at 19 stores across Illinois. Included in the 19 are the Benton, Marion and Murphysboro stores. As part of the project, a mix of rooftop and ground-mount solar systems are expected to account for 23 megawatts, with constructions targeted for the first half of next year. This commitment moves Walmart closer to its 2025 goal of supplying its global operations with 50 percent renewable energy.
