Williamson Co. – A Carterville man is set to spend 12-years behind bars on a litany of charges. According to a release from Williamson County State’s Attorney Brandon Zanotti’s Office, Montez Avant pleaded guilty to residential burglary, a class 1 felony; resisting arrest, a class A misdemeanor; and domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor. Two of the charges stem from an arrest made in July after Avant broke into a home and resisted arrest when police arrived. The domestic battery charge is from a February incident with a family member. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Carterville Police Department handled the investigation.
