Mt. Vernon – A death investigation is underway in Mt. Vernon after the victim of a reported battery died in an Indiana Hospital on Wednesday. According to a release from the Department’s Facebook page, officers were called to a reported battery at the 1000 block of Prairie Avenue on Tuesday evening. The victim, an adult male whose name is not being released, was transported to Crossroads Hospital before being airlifted to an Evansville Indiana hospital. Officers were informed that the victim had passed away. Mt Vernon Police Department Detectives are conducting an investigation into the death. Also assisting in the investigation is the Vanderburgh, Indiana County Coroner’s Office and Jefferson County State’s Attorneys Office. At the completion of the investigation a report will be sent to the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if criminal charges are applicable.
