Carbondale City Council Unanimously Votes Against Proposed Solar Farm on old Koppers Site

Carbondale – The Carbondale City Council has voted against a proposal to build a solar energy farm on the site of the old Koppers Wood Treatment facility. The Council voted unanimously against the project last night at a special meeting called to discuss the issue. Advocates for the solar farm have pointed to the energy that it could provide as well as the jobs that building the farm would bring, but opponents have said that the ground that the wood treatment facility once stood on is tainted with creosote, a harmful and toxic chemical, and that building there would disturb the chemicals in the ground and make residents in the area sick.
