Murphysboro – A special prosecutor in the Gaege Bethune case has called for the case to be dismissed. According to a news release from Special Prosecutor David Robinson, he has filed a motion to no longer prosecute Bethune in connection with the 2014 death of SIU student Pravin Varughese. Earlier this year a jury found Bethune guilty of first degree murder in the case, but the judge presiding over the case overturned the jury’s verdict, stating that wording in the indictment may have been confusing. The investigation into Varughese’s death remains open.
