Carbondale – An emergency warming center will open its doors in Carbondale next week. The center will be located at 705 E. College Street and will operate from 8 p.m.-8 a.m. through April 1. The center will provide warm sleeping space for people who are homeless in Carbondale. The center will be professionally staffed by paid employees as well as unpaid volunteers. All volunteers and employees are being trained in de-escalation and bloodborne pathogen prevention. Staff and volunteers are offered a free hepatitis A vaccination. The center will have security 24/7. Potential volunteers may reach out to the Southern Illinois Coalition for the Homeless. The warming center is expected to open sometime next week.
