Murphysboro Man Fires Concealed Weapon Inside of Carbondale Police Department

Carbondale – A Murphysboro man is facing multiple charges after attempting to shoot an officer inside the Carbondale Police Department. According to a release from the Carbondale Police, officers arrested 36-year-old Eric Brown in connection to an incident at Rue 21 in the 2100 block of East Main on Saturday afternoon. When officers brought Brown into the processing area, police say that he produced a concealed firearm and fired at an officer inside the room. The officer was able to get out of the room and Brown then barricaded himself inside. A Carbondale Police Department crisis negotiator with the assistance of the Illinois State Police negotiated with Brown, who eventually relinquished the firearm. No one was injured during the incident. Brown is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, aggravated assault, bringing contraband into a penal institution, possession of a stolen firearm and unlawful use of weapons by a felon. Brown is being held in the Jackson County Jail.  The investigation is currently active and ongoing.
