Mt. Vernon – A 3-vehicle crash occurred around 9:30am Wednesday just south of the I-57/64 interchange north of Mt. Vernon. Early reports indicate a semi-tanker and two other vehicles were involved. As of now neither names nor vehicles have been reported, but there has been a fatality and two people were taken to the hospital for treatment. Currently, all reports are unofficial until we receive full details from the Illinois State Police. All lanes of I-57 & I-64 in that area are open and slowly returning to normal flow of traffic. Traffic was backed up for around 4 hours for crash investigation and scene clean-up.
