One Injured in Chain-Reaction Crash in Saline Co.

Saline Co. – One person was injured in a chain reaction crash involving four vehicles yesterday afternoon on Illinois 34 in Saline Co.  According to a release from the Illinois State Police the accident happened at around 3:45pm near Moriah Road when a garbage hauler, driven by Rodney E. Spivey of Elizabethtown, was headed north on Illinois 34 before coming up on several stopped vehicles. Spivey stated that his brakes failed and he struck the back of one vehicle, causing the other vehicles to collide. One man, David Mitchell of Raleigh, was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries. Illinois 34 was closed for three hours. Spivey was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
