SSHD – As volunteers continue to battle the rising seep water in Alexander County from this year’s historic flooding, the rising temperatures create an additional need of bottled water for those sandbagging in the area.
In response, Southern Seven Health Department’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will collect donations of bottled water, Powerade and Gatorade products at their “Flood the Bus” for Flood Relief this Friday, July 5, from 9am-Noon at Anna-Jonesboro National Bank on North Main Street in Anna, IL.
MRC Coordinator for Southern Seven, Bobi Cavins, stated on Monday, “With the increase number of volunteers now sandbagging the homes of residents in the county, resources are being depleted faster than they can be restocked. The Medical Reserve Corp is hoping to fill the bus with enough supplies to meet the need while we wait for backup reserves to arrive.”
Throughout the area, local businesses are encouraging customers to donate to help meet the need including Anna Kroger and Walmart Stores, Save-a-Lot in Jonesboro, and Dollar General Stores in Union County. All donations must be taken to the collection site at the bank for immediate delivery.
Once collected, the items will be delivered to the Sandbagging Operations Center, located in the SPARK Ministries Church, on HWY 146 in McClure.
