FRANKLIN COUNTY – The Franklin County Board passed an ordinance at Tuesday night’s meeting to not allow the sale of recreational cannabis anywhere in the unincorporated areas of Franklin County.
County Board Chairman Randall Crocker said within the ordinance is a .75 percent tax on any cannabis sold in the incorporated parts of Franklin County.
With recreational cannabis becoming legal in Illinois Jan. 1, Crocker said counties and cities across Illinois will have to make decisions on the issue. Crocker added he felt at the time Franklin County should not allow the sale of recreational cannabis in unincorporated areas.
When asked if he thought Franklin County would miss out from the potential revenue recreational cannabis could generate, Crocker noted there are several other issues beyond revenue.
