WILLIAMSON COUNTY – The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office said a phone scam is working through the area.
Sheriff Bennie Vick says the sheriff’s office has received reports from residents who received phone calls from a man identifying himself as Deputy Anderson or Deputy James. He claims to be from the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
The calls appear to come from the number 1-888-300-9369 with Caller ID spoofed to show a local police department. The person will tell the intended victim there is an active warrant for their arrest. He’ll provide a fictional case number and then try to pressure them into sending him money.
Sheriff Vick said the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office doesn’t handle any warrant or criminal charge in this manner, nor will the sheriff’s office demand money over the phone. The sheriff added a reminder that residents should never give personal information over the phone.
