Multiple Charges for Colorado Man After Traffic Stop in Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON – A Colorado man is facing multiple charges in connection with a traffic stop early Saturday morning in Mt. Vernon.

18-year-old Johnathan Turner was pulled over by Mt. Vernon Police on the I-57 southbound on-ramp for failing to signal a turn. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle after smelling marijuana, finding it alongside with a loaded 9 mm rifle under the driver’s seat, reported stolen out of Texas.

Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page said the suspect admitted plans to sell the weed in another state. Turner was charged with armed violence, manufacturing/delivery of cannabis between 30-500 grams, and possession of a stolen firearm.

He’s being held at the Jefferson County Justice Center.
