Paducah Basketball Coach Facing DUI, Other Charges Following Hit and Run

CARBONDALE – A Paducah, KY basketball coach will face charges in Illinois after being involved in a hit and run traffic crash in Carbondale over the weekend.

According to a release from the Carbondale Police Department, officers received a report of a hit and run involving a vehicle that collided with a light pole near the intersection of W. Grand Ave. and S. Illinois Ave. at around 1:40 Saturday morning. Witnesses followed the vehicle as it drove north on S. Illinois Avenue and collided with an unoccupied car parked in the 700 block. Officers were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of W. Cherry St. and S. Illinois Ave.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Wesley Overstreet, a coach for Paducah’s St. Mary’s Catholic High School, was found to be impaired and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI). Subsequent to Overstreet’s arrest, officers found him to be in possession of scheduled narcotics without a prescription and other controlled substances.

Overstreet was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance, DUI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He suffered minor injuries as a result of one or both of the crashes.
