MT. VERNON – A 38-year-old Mt. Vernon man was sentenced Tuesday in Jefferson County Court to 15 years in prison after he pleading guilty to shooting another man in 2019.
Myron Seigart pleaded guilty to a Class X felony charge of aggravated battery through the discharge of a firearm, in exchange for a Class X felony charge of being an armed habitual criminal and Class 1 charge of aggravated discharge of a firearm being dismissed.
The shooting occurred May 26, 2019 in the 900 block of S. 21st in Mt Vernon. One person was shot during and suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
Seigart was arrested a few months later when members of the Mt. Vernon Police Department and K9 Division, United States Secret Service and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department located him hiding in the dryer of a Mt. Vernon residence.
He was wanted at that time in connection with the shooting and on a federal warrant stemming from federal drug charges.
Jefferson County State’s Attorney Sean Featherstun said Seigart will have to serve 85-percent of his 15-year sentence.
