SPRINGFIELD – According to State Representative Terri Bryant, nurses could become ineligible for state and federal employment if they attended state-funded colleges in southern Illinois which didn’t pay to receive their accreditation. Bryant said colleges pay between eighteen and $25,000 to become accredited, adding the lack of accreditation could cost an already licensed nurse a future state gig.
Regionally, according to Bryant, the only state-funded college to pay to receive their accreditation was Kaskaskia College in Centralia. She hopes to introduce legislation to help those eligible to pursue state employment if they choose.
