Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies Honored for Saving Drowning Girl

MT. VERNON – Two Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies, Deputy Kevin Rodriguez and Captain Ryan Weeks, were presented with Life Saving Awards Monday night for their roles in saving a 4-year-old drowning victim December 22.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Telecommunicator Brandy Mays was given a commendation on a prior date for handling the call leading to Rodriguez finding the young girl in a pond and pulling her to safety.

According to earlier reports, Rodriguez was patrolling in the Dix area when he stopped to help a man searching for his 4-year-old daughter Ella. Rodriguez found the girl in a nearby pond and pulled her from the water. He and Weeks then performed life-saving CPR on her.

Also recognized was Alexis Hurst, presented with 2019 Telecommunicator of the Year, and Gilbert Haynes, presented with 2019 Correctional Officer of the Year.
