Two Shawneetown Men Involved in Quick Mart Crash Saturday

SHAWNEETOWN – Two Shawneetown men were involved in a Saturday morning crash in Shawneetown.

According to a release from Illinois State Police (ISP), around 8:50 a.m., 85-year-old Harold B. Vaught was attempting to back his car in the Shawnee Quick Mart parking lot around 8:50 when he struck the driver’s side of an unoccupied minivan with the rear of his car. Vaught’s car briefly left and reentered the parking lot before proceeding east on Shawnee Ave. and eventually coming to rest in a grassy area near the end of the roadway. Vaught said he believed his brakes were not functioning properly at the time of the incident.

He and a passenger, 72-year-old John R. Hall of Shawneetown, were taken by ambulance to an area hospital for medical evaluations. Vaught’s car was towed from the scene. Vaught was cited for leaving the scene of a property damage crash.

ISP District 19 was assisted at the crash scene by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, Deaconess Ambulance Service and C&T Towing.
