SIUC Commits to Sustainability Thursday in Signing Climate Commitment

CARBONDALE – Southern Illinois University Carbondale Thursday reaffirmed their commitment to sustainability with Chancellor John Dunn signing the Second Nature Climate Commitment.

The signed commitment states “colleges and universities must exercise leadership in their communities and throughout society by providing the knowledge, research, practice, and informed graduates to create a positive and sustainable future.”

More than 800 college and university leaders across the country have signed the commitment to address climate change through research and action on campus. Participating institutions commit to developing a campus plan to reduce greenhouse gasses, deploy alternative energy sources, create energy efficiencies or include other strategies to reduce their carbon footprints.
