CARBONDALE – Amtrak will begin reducing service between Carbondale and Chicago Friday, March 20 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
According to a release from the service, corridor service will be reduced from three to two round trips, and the “Illini” 4:15 p.m. northbound train will not make round trip service until further notice.
“The safety of Amtrak’s customers and employees is our top priority,” Amtrak said via a statement on their website. “We continue to monitor the coronavirus situation closely and we are taking action based on guidance from public health experts; that includes restoring service to trains and routes once demand returns.”
Northbound and southbound trains for “Saluki” and “City of New Orleans” will continue to run daily.
