Gov. Pritzker Issues ‘Stay at Home’ Order for Illinois Residents

CHICAGO (AP) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker Friday issued a “stay at home” order beginning 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21 and remaining in effect through April 7.

The governor said grocery stores, gas stations, and pharmacies will remain open; all other “non-essential businesses” however must close. Local roads, interstates and tollways will remain open as well.

“For the vast majority of you already taking precautions, your lives will not change very much,” Pritzker said.

Elsewhere in the briefing, Pritzker said the reopening date for schools in the state has been postponed until April 8.
