Two Mt. Vernon Residents Arrested on Drug, Firearm Charges

mt. vernon – Law enforcement officials in Jefferson County reported Thursday the arrests of two Mt. Vernon residents after a search warrant resulted in the discovery of drugs and firearms.

The Mt. Vernon Police Department/Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department High Risk Team executed a narcotics related search warrant at 1116 S.26th Street in Mt Vernon as a result of ongoing investigations into drug activity in the areas.

After the residence was secured, detectives reportedly conducted a search of the residence and discovered methamphetamine, firearms with serial numbers defaced and drug equipment.

As a result, 36-year-old  April L Penrod was arrested on charges of Armed Violence, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver and Possession of Firearms with Defaced Serial Numbers. A second resident of the home, 22-year-old Jacob L Bulthius was arrested on charges of Possession of Firearms with Defaced Serial Numbers. Additional charges are pending.

Both subjects were taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.
