Mt. Vernon Drury Promised to Only Be Regional Alternative Housing

MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon Emergency Management Coordinator, Kevin Sargent, said he has been promised by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency the Drury Inn & Suites will only be used as a Regional Alternative Housing site. Drury was established as an emergency housing backup for Mt. Vernon for those exposed to COVID-19.

Although the hotel will mainly focus on essential employees directly exposed to the virus like those from Green Tree Senior Living (who saw an outbreak Sunday of 19 positive COVID-19 cases) it’s possible for a private citizen to be approved for housing as well.

Sargent said those considereded for housing at the Drury Inn must fit into one of four categories.

Sargent added three healthcare workers have currently chosen to take advantage of the housing site.

The Jefferson County Health Department announced two new cases of the novel coronavirus in residents Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of cases to 34 with a death toll of two.
