One Dead, Three Injured Following Massac Co. Crash Involving Alcohol

MASSAC CO. – One person died and three others were injured in a Saturday night traffic crash in Massac County.

According to a release from Illinois State Police (ISP), 27-year-old Jose G. Coronel-Bautista of Nashville, Tennessee was driving his pickup truck on the ramp from U.S. 45 to westbound I-24 around 9:30 p.m. when he left the roadway to the right and overcorrected.

Coronel-Bautista and two other passengers, 27-year-old Maria J. Alcantar-Morales and a 17-year-old boy (both from Nashville) were taken by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A four-year-old girl from Nashville, who was also a passenger in the truck, was pronounced dead on scene by the Massac County Coroner.

Coronel-Bautista was the only occupant wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and jailed.                            

The ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) is continuing the investigation. No further information will be disseminated at this time.
