Local Health Department Encouraging Vaccinations Amid Drop

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – A recent CDC report shows that routine childhood vaccinations have dropped because of families staying at home because of the coronavirus pandemic. One local health department has also seen a sharp drop in vaccinations, and is encouraging residents to stay on top of protecting from preventable illnesses.

Shawnna Rhine, Public Relations Coordinator with the Southern Seven Health Department, said calls to schedule vaccinations at their department have dropped by over 50 percent compared to this time last year.

Those in the Southern Seven coverage area can schedule their child’s vaccines by calling the department at 634-2297.
