CHICAGO – Tens of thousands of workers across the country are or were set to walk off the job Monday to protest racial inequality.
Organizers of a national workers strike said employees in more than two dozen U.S. cities have been or were set to strike, protesting systemic racism and economic inequality they claimed has only worsened during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dubbed the “Strike for Black Lives,” essential workers such as nursing home employees, janitors and delivery men and women would join fast food, ride-share and airport workers in events targeting corporations and government leaders.
Major actions have been expected in New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis and Los Angeles.
