MT. VERNON – The new Mt. Vernon Post Office is approaching completion as mostly indoor work remains on the new building at the corner of 10th and Jordan in downtown Mt. Vernon.
Once the post office is moved, the redevelopment project at the former Park Plaza can begin. Mt. Vernon assistant city manager Nathan McKenna said the target date for the post office’s opening has not changed.
Once the move is complete, the redevelopment of Park Plaza can begin, which McKenna said will be an important economic development for the community.
Milano plans on building a trans-loading site on the grounds where Park Plaza currently stands. The project is expected to create no less than eight direct full-time jobs and around couple dozen indirect jobs to Mt. Vernon.
