SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – Williamson and Jackson County continue to post high numbers of confirmed new COVID-19 cases, as Williamson passed the latter Wednesday with the most in the region since the beginning of the pandemic.
However, the region-wide weekly average of positive tests showed signs of consistency, remaining at 6.9% in Region 5.
Local case breakdown:
- Williamson County: 35, one death at a long-term care facility
- Jackson County: 24
- Jefferson County: eight
- Pulaski County: five
- Franklin, Perry and White counties: four
- Union County: three
- Alexander, Hardin, Johnson and Saline counties: one each
Randolph County, the southernmost county in Region 4 of the states mitigation groups covering the metro-east, reported six new cases after a fresh set of restrictions, including a ban on indoor dining, was placed on the region.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 2,128 new cases of coronavirus statewide, including 27 additional confirmed deaths.
