Williamson, Jackson Counties Lead in New COVID-19 Cases

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday reported 2,862 new confirmed cases of COVID-19) in Illinois, including 49 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 327,605 cases, including 9,074 deaths, in 102 counties in Illinois. Williamson and Jackson counties led the region in new confirmed cases.

Local case breakdown:

  • Williamson County: 25
  • Jackson County: 20
  • Franklin County: 15, one death at a long-term care facility in Williamson County
  • Union County: 14
  • Hamilton County: eight
  • Perry County: seven
  • Jefferson, Gallatin and Johnson counties: six each
  • Saline County: four, one death
  • Pulaski County: four
  • White Count: three
  • Alexander, Hardin and Massac counties: one each

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity rate regarding total tests from Oct. 7-13 is 4.6 percent.
