CARMI – A Carmi man was sentenced Thursday in White County Court on drug and gun charges.
White County State’s Attorney Denton Aud said 25-year-old Dakota Goodwin was sentenced to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections with one year of mandatory supervised release for unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon (a Class 3 felony) and five years and ten months in the Illinois Department of Corrections with one year of mandatory supervised release for unlawful possession of a controlled substance (a Class 4 felony). He will also have to pay his court costs.
Aud added Goodwin was on probation in the possession of a controlled substance case when an investigation and arrest by the Carmi Police Department with assistance from the White County Sheriff’s Department determined that he had been in possession of a firearm in September of this year.
Consequently, his probation was revoked in that case with a new sentence entered in it, as well as the sentence entered in the possession of a weapon by a felon case.
