Five COVID-Related Deaths Reported in Southern Illinois Monday

SPRINGFIELD – State health officials Monday reported 5,059 new COVID-19 cases in Illinois, including 79 additional deaths. Five were reported among southern Illinois health departments.

The total number of statewide cases stands at 984,880, including 16,834 deaths.

  • Jefferson County: 76, one death (since 1/1)
  • Union County: 54 (since 1/1)
  • Williamson County: 44
  • Johnson County: 42 (since 1/1)
  • Jackson County: 30
  • Hamilton County: 28 (since 12/31/2020)
  • Massac County: 18 (since 1/1)
  • Saline County: 17
  • Franklin County: 16
  • White County: 15
  • Pope County: 10 (since 1/1)
  • Hardin County: nine (since 1/1)
  • Perry County: seven, four deaths
  • Alexander County: seven (since 1/1)
  • Pulaski County: five (since 1/1)
  • Gallatin County: four

The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Dec. 28 through Jan. 3 is 8.6 percent.
