ULLIN – Two are dead after a fatal accident involving a train Tuesday morning in Pulaski County.
According to Illinois State Police, at 11:30 a.m. a white Ford Truck driven by a 76-year-old man was turning west onto McIntosh Lane from US 51 one mile south of Ullin when the driver pulled onto the rail crossing directly in the path of a northbound Canadian National railroad train.
The train struck the truck and pushed it a half-mile before coming to a stop. The driver and his passenger, a 74-year-old woman, were both pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County coroner. Their names are not being released until family members are notified.
There was no derailment or road closure. Police said the crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
