Harrisburg City Official Faces Felony Charge for Receiving Pay for Other Positions

HARRISBURG – The Saline County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Friday that it has filed a one-count information in Saline County against an elected official in Harrisburg.

According to Saline County State’s Attorney Molly Wilson Kasiar, 66-year-old April Elaine Clayton, who serves as the Harrisburg Township Assessor, performed work in and was paid for other township positions including secretary to the Harrisburg Township Supervisor, Treasurer/Bookkeeper and General Assistance Office Coordinator/Bookkeeper for Harrisburg Township while holding her elected position – all done from Jan. 1, 2014 through May 2021.

Clayton’s charge is a Class 4 felony and carries a possible sentence of one to three years in the Illinois Department of Correction if convicted.
