Mid-Term Elections Underway Tuesday Featuring Contested Local Elections

(WQRL) – The 2022 mid-term election is finally here.

The polls opened Tuesday morning at 6 and will close at 7 p.m..  

In lllinois, voters will head to the polls to vote for the candidate of their choice in many local, state and federal races. Locally, there are contested county races.

In Franklin County, voters will choose either Republican Kevin Wilson or Democrat John H. Gardner Jr. as County Clerk replacing Republican Greg Woolard who is retiring after serving two terms. Voters will also vote for a County Treasurer and County Board Members in District 1.

Voters in Hamilton County will also choose a new County Clerk as Republican Heather Bowman will face Democrat Samuel Bryant Wilson for the office. The winner will replace Democrat County Clerk Mary Anne Hopfinger, who is one of nine people running for a seat on the County Board in this election.

In Williamson County, voters will choose a new State’s Attorney as Democrat Marcy Cascio-Hale will face Republican Ted Hampson for that office. Cascio-Hale is seeking a full term after replacing Brandon Zanotti who resigned as State’s Attorney earlier this year.

Voters will also choose a County Treasurer and a County Commissioner as Incumbent Democrat Brent Gentry is facing a challenge from Republican Jim Rasor.

Additionally, voters will decide if they want to give Democrat Gov. JB Pritzker a second term or turn things over to Republican State Sen. Darren Bailey in the governor’s race.
